Harmony Arts Festival 2006
Marnie Grey ~ "One of the best children's performers of her generation" - The Vancouver International Children's Festival
The leader of the pack. Although Marnie plays the guitar; she rarely plays one when in concert. She's a true child at heart who likes to be hands free and full of energy. Marnie captivates her audience and creates an all-out interactive presence, engaging her audience to join in the physical fun. Be prepared to jump in puddles, swing like monkeys and ‘cut a rug’; Marnie's infectious personality will make even the most resistant follow along. See Marnie's full bio below for more information.

Jon Roper – Guitarist
Our rocker, Jonny has been playing guitar since the age of 15 and he won't stop until he gets it right! Jon studied music composition at Simon Fraser University and Jazz Performance at VCC. He has played in various projects ranging from hard rock to African dance music. Jon has performed with many talented local jazz instrumentalists and vocalists including Alita Duprey, Allan Matheson, Bruno Hubert and Russ Botten just to name a few. Jon's diverse style and presence is a definite asset to the sound of the MWM show.

Boris Favre – Keyboardist
The multi-talented Bo plays many instruments for the MWM Band: piano, bass and fiddle to start but don't forget about the nose whistle, bag pipes AND jaw harp. Over the past decade Boris has toured extensively with the internationally acclaimed Celtic band ‘Mad Pudding’ which has been featured in major music festivals throughout North America and Europe. Boris' formal background includes a Bachelor's Degree in music from U.B.C., an Associateship Diploma (A.R.C.T.) in classical piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and a Jazz and Commercial music Diploma from V.C.C. A fine, fine addition to the Music with Marnie Band!!!

Eduardo Ottoni – Drummer
The lively and smiley Eddie grew up playing music in his hometown of Montreal, Quebec. At the age of 16 he released his first record as drummer with the band "The Sherlocks". Over the years he began to compose and produce music. Marnie and Eduardo write and compose many of Marnie’s songs and Eduardo engineered and co-produced Peace and Puddles and Groovin’ through the Neighbourhood at his studio/production Co. "Subliminal Sound." Many children aspire to be a "drummer like Eduardo" after seeing him perform at a MWM Show.

Mumbu the Monkey Mumbu the Monkey
This funky monkey is known for his lively, sparkling and charismatic presence and for his dazzling dance moves. The children jump and dance in delight when Mumbu makes his grand monkey entrance and can never get enough of him ~ he’s got the moves and boy do the children like to follow.

Tula the Kangaroo Tula the Kangaroo
Get ready to hop and hop and hop….here comes Tula!!!! The name Tula means 'heart' in some dialects of Australian Aborigine…hopping’s good for the heart and Tula’s full of love ~ It’s the most perfect name! Tula and Marnie speak in sign language. In singing and signing the song “Kangaroos” children learn some basic ASL, a little about the Australian Culture and have fun hopping with Tula ta' boot!

Jethro the Cowboy Jethro the Cowboy
Have you ever heard of a hoe down??? Well our crowd pleaser Jethro will mosey onto the stage and show y’all what a true cowboy hoe down is all about. Get ready to stomp your feet and shout “Yee Haw” ~ and that's just the beginning, Jethro is guaranteed to wrangle up nothin' but pure energetic FUN!

Milton the Mosquito Milton the Mosquito
A fun and animated puppet that comes out when the crowd calls him in "mosquito language". Although mosquito’s are known to bite, Milton is loved by all and represents the feeling of acceptance and inclusion and the fun that can happen within a large group of friends. Together Marnie and Milton invite the children to make their own small, medium and large 'mosquito bumps' through jumping and bouncing.

ABOUT MARNIE

Marnie Grey is an infectiously cheerful children's performer with a million watt smile that doesn't waver for a second.

The Star Phoenix, Saskatoon.

RESUME ~ How it all Began

Marnie Grey is a Vancouver based Children’s Entertainer extra-ordinaire whose popularity has exploded over the last seven years; due to three hit CD’s, consecutive sell out shows and incredibly popular Music Classes. Prior to her success as a Children's Musician, Marnie was an Early Childhood Educator (1993). In 1999, Marnie's love of music and years of experience all came together to develop five unique Music and Movement Classes for children. Marnie taught 25 classes a week, has had over 7000 students, line ups as early as 2:00 a.m. and ‘crashes’ to the on-line registration were the norm for her wildly popular music classes.

RECORDINGS ~ The Music

Due to the many requests from parents and children, in April 2001 Marnie released her debut album ‘Music with Marnie’. The rest is history. Marnie’s popularity was growing every minute and the need to share her music was on the rise. In July 2003, Marnie released her second CD “Peace and Puddles.” In writing “Peace and Puddles” she used her talent and insight to develop a high energy music and movement CD filled with sweet songs that enhance self expression and creativity, foster parent and child relationships and instill messages of peace and love. “The Peace and Puddles CD was one of my contributions towards world peace and towards those who are most important to me … children! It was my intention to make a fun and joyful CD that would touch the lives of many young children in a peaceful and positive way.” On May 16, 2005, Marnie released her 3rd CD “Groovin’ through the Neighbourhood” at 6 SOLD OUT shows at the Vancouver International Children’s Festival. “Groovin’ through the Neighbourhood” is a funky and educational CD filled with upbeat music and movement tunes about everyday things that children LOVE. “Through years of observation I’ve grown to learn what children love and out of my compassion for children I have done what I can to include their interests in my songs. The lyrics of these songs are written through the heart and mind of a 2 – 6 year old and the sound is something that both adults and children will appreciate.”

TELEVISION APPEARANCES & HER BIG SCREEN DEBUT

Marnie and Mumbu the Monkey are presently starring in a film called “Music with Marnie – Mumbu on the Moon” showing daily at the Vancouver H.R. MacMillan Space Centre. The show was released in July 2004 and is still a favourite of many Space Centre visitors. Marnie’s latest CD “Groovin’ through the Neighbourhood” has 6 video enhanced songs on it from “Music with Marnie – Mumbu on the Moon.” Marnie has had a number of appearances on Knowledge Network, Global TV, CBC TV and Shaw TV and she and her band are still the only children's performers to appear on CBC's - ZeD TV. Visit Marnie's website for samples of some of her TV commercials, performances and interviews.

CONTRIBUTION ~ Giving Back

Marnie has an incredible passion for her work; it is her intention to do work that has meaning, that creates positive change and that promotes and encourages healthy development in all facets of children’s lives. Marnie donates a portion of the proceeds of the “Peace and Puddles” CD to the Vancouver Chapter of the United Way - Success by Six Program and she is also an ambassador for Foster Parents Plan. As a survivor of the tsunami that struck the Indian Ocean Dec 2004, Marnie decided to record “Groovin’ through the Neighbourhood” and donate a portion of the proceeds from her sales to Foster Parents Plan – Plan Thailand. “I am very taken by all the children that I meet and am incredibly grateful for the work that I do. It feels so right to do what I can to help children, as they make me so very happy each and every day.”

LIVE PERFORMANCES & TOURS

Marnie and the Music with Marnie Band work as a team to captivate their audiences and deliver stimulating, high-energy performances that involve children mentally, physically and emotionally. The lively and interactive performances promote audience participation through music and movement, imitation, response and sing–a-longs. Marnie and her band have performed to raving SOLD OUT crowds at many festivals across Canada and have been described as a “Perennial Favourite” at the Vancouver International Children’s Festival. “I never tire of doing shows. There is something so sweet and invigorating about being surrounded by hundreds of bright eyed, energetic and beautiful children.”
