Cooked Play Dough

  • 4 cups water

  • 4 cups flour

  • ¾ - 1 cup salt

  • 2 ½ tbs. Oil

  • 5 tbs. Cream of Tartar

  • Food Colouring

Mix all ingredients in a pan on medium heat until mixture thickens.   Sprinkle a small amount of flour on counter.   Remove from heat and knead play dough on sprinkled flour.  To soften the play dough even more add another tablespoon of oil to mixture while kneading.

HERES A FUN PLAYDOUGH ACTIVITY:

Make white play dough (don’t use any food colouring in original mixture). When kneading is complete separate play dough into small pieces and roll into 3-4 inch ball shapes.  Poke a well into the ball with your finger and inside each well place a drop of food colouring (its best if you use different colours in each ball) Cover up the well and place the play dough out for your child to play with.  As your child manipulates the play dough colours will come out.  It’s a great surprise for your child and also the play dough looks quite beautiful when all of the colours are mixed through it (I often call it “rainbow play dough)

Kool Aid Play Dough

  • ½ cup salt

  • 2 cups water

  • 2 tablespoons oil

  • 2 cups flour

  • 2 tablespoons alum

  • kool Aid for colour

Boil salt in water until dissolved.  Add Kool Aid, oil, alum and flour.  Knead until smooth.  Keep refrigerated. Will last up to two months.

Bubbles

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 tbs. Liquid detergent

  • 1 tbs. Glycerine

  • ½ tsp. Salt

(I also recommend looking at the Science World web site www.scienceworld.bc.ca and under search type in "bubble recipe".  They have some great and very interesting bubble recipes on their web site.)

Here is a great song to sing while blowing bubbles:

The Bubble Gum Song

Traditional Song, Adapted by Marnie Grey
(Tune: All around the Mulberry Bush)
My Mommy gave me a nickel so I could buy a pickle
But I didn’t buy a pickle I bought bubbles

Baloop, baloop, baloop, POP!
Baloop, baloop, baloop, POP!
Baloop, baloop, baloop, POP!
I like bubbles.

My Daddy gave me a dime
So I could buy a lime
But I didn’t buy a lime
I bought bubbles.

Baloop, baloop, baloop, POP!
Baloop, baloop, baloop, POP!
Baloop, baloop, baloop, POP!
I like bubbles.

  • On a hot summers day save yourself a little arm work and hold your bubble blower in front of a fan.

  • Many items in your home can be used to blow bubbles with: empty strawberry baskets, egg flippers, pasta strainers etc.
