Tips for Parents
Craft Recipes | Parents Corner | Tips for Parents | Chants & Finger Plays

Please feel free to check this sight often for new updates.

Do you find that your child doesn’t like having her diaper changed if so try this chant while changing her diaper:

Charlie Chaplin

(Start by moving your child’s legs in a biking motion)

Charlie Chaplin went to France to teach the ladies how to dance

First they did the rhumba (same biking motion)

Then they did the kicks (hold legs straight and scissor kick them back and forth)

Then they did the samba (place your child’s feet together and move her legs up and down)

Then they did the splits (move legs apart)

You can also sing The Wheels on the Bus and use your child’s legs for the wheels, the doors, and the wipers.

Another way to make diaper changes more enjoyable is to place pictures by the diaper table for your child to look at while you are changing his diaper.  Great pictures to use are ones of family members or farm animals’ etc.  Try to change the pictures often.  When its change time, instead of saying, “Do you want to have your diaper changed” you can say, “Lets go see the picture of the horse.”  As your child gets older you can place pictures down low by the potty or read a book to your child as he sits on the potty.

If you have a train whistle (can be found in some music stores or toy stores) a great way to get your toddler to the bathroom is to sing:   (tune: She’ll be Coming around the Mountain) “Oh the bathroom train is coming here it comes (toot, toot). Oh the bathroom train is coming here it comes (toot, toot). Oh the bathroom train is coming, the bathroom train is coming, the bathroom train is coming, here it comes (toot, toot).

PLAYDOUGH FUN

Home made playdough is one of the best items for your child to play with it supports hand eye coordination, fine motor development and creativity and it's a super way to relax your child.  One excellent tip for enhancing the relaxation that your child can receive from playdough is the addition of essential oils.  Have you ever tried adding a few drops of lavender to playdough and have your child play with it prior to nap or how about grapefruit or peppermint oil for morning time playdough play to help lift your childs spirits and wake up the senses first thing in the a.m.  (please see the craft recipes icon under parents corner for playdough recipes)
